Investor

Steve Kapner is a gig economy founder and investor. Thirty-five years ago he co-founded MacTemps, inventing specialty staffing for creatives and pioneering health and retirement benefits for freelancers. He and his partners grew the company (now called Aquent) from a dorm room startup to the world’s largest marketing and design work solutions company, currently with 10,000 employees. His roles ranged from billable creative talent to living in Tokyo for 6 years where he ran Aquent’s Japan operations.

Steve also worked as a consultant at BCG and did VC investing for Harvard’s endowment fund. His board roles include Angie’s List (ANGI) from growth through IPO, multiple tech startups, and The Aspire Group (security-cleared engineers where he was chair and maintained a DoD top-secret security clearance). He is an active investor and mentor across a range of industries.

Steve’s nonprofit work includes human rights and advocacy, and he conducted humanitarian relief after the 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami. He received both an AB and MBA from Harvard.
